We don’t talk so much about how important it is to have people who genuinely love and support us. People who believe in us and are always there even when it seems like the world have turned against us. We don’t talk about the impacts of friends in our lives, how the quality of friends we keep affects our reasoning, decisions and possibly our progress.
I know most of us like to delude ourselves into thinking that no one can influence us, but what we have failed to understand is that we subconsciously pick the habits of our loved ones. Its not always the pronounced ones like we think, it might not be drinking, smoking, clubbing but the simple and innocuous looking ones which never appears nor considered a major problem, it could be skipping classes, church programs, buying stuffs above their means and cheating and lying just to get financial support. if not careful, this gradually and definitely always without our knowledge become us. We become truant, disrespectful, uncontended, greedy and we start losing focus and our most held values.
Friends are always in our space and we spend time a lot with them, we discuss things and share opinions about everything. Their ideas, opinions, and reasoning certainly rubs off on us. It is therefore important to make friends that their lives will affect yours positively. Make friends who have similar dreams or vision as you. Make friends who advice and support you genuinely.
Make friends that have similar values as you, make friends that are smart, intelligent, kind and above all invested in your growth. You cannot do this world alone; there are times you would be weak, times your strength cannot carry you, times you would have no confidence in your abilities and times you would feel so empty. Make sure you have reliable friends, people who are they to constantly remind you of the strengths you have, how smart and intelligent you are, how far you have come despite the hurdles and why you should never give up. They will be there to lift your spirit and remind you that God is still on His throne, they will have full faith and confidence in you and your capacities and this honestly will give you all the strength you need. Make friends who point out your mistakes so that you can learn and improve, friends who talk to you about opportunities and above all friends who bring out the best in you.
