A worthy life is one which is examined with the desire to be better everyday. It involves taking a moment to analyse one’s life in order to identify the areas that need improvement, to keep track of your progress, to identify habits that must be eliminated and the ones to pick up which will be extremely beneficial to your life.
The mistake we make most times is believing that self introspection should only be done in the face of failure, disappointment or whenever we are going through the negative lane of life. This is a very wrong notion, especially as self evaluation is not just limited to one’s life, but also extends to your presence in others life, and your presence in your community and society. You generally review your actions, ideas, opinions, beliefs, successes, setbacks, career, family, relationship and society because there’s always something to improve
How best can one self introspect?
There are two most important steps that must be present when self examining
The first step is honesty with oneself: honesty with oneself is the most crucial step in self examination, it involves being completely honest with yourself, you don’t make excuses for yourself, you don’t deny what is true of you and your life. You are totally honest with yourself about your capabilities, actions or inactions and mistakes. For instance, if its fear that you are facing, lack of focus, minimal efforts, you confront yourself with that truth and not deny your reality which makes improvements in life almost impossible.
The second step is taking responsibility/ accountability; honesty with oneself makes accountability feasible while honesty without accepting responsibility for our life actions is simply a total waste. You must learn how not to blame anybody for any mishaps in your life. You must learn accountability with yourself, it helps you recognize your strength and shortcomings and this is simply the best way to grow.
What stops us most times, from examining our lives is fear of what we might find out about ourselves and lack of courage to confront our reality. We would rather live in delusion than hurt our hearts with the truth. It is therefore, very important that we conquer this fear and choose courage at all times, as this helps us confront our fears. Ignoring our reality is simply setting oneself up for disaster. Forgive yourself if it was a mistake that could have been avoided. If it is a problem, then face it and find solutions.
The most important thing to understand is that no one is perfect, we are all a work in progress. However, the ability to reflect on our lives, the role we play in the lives of others and in our society in order to make necessary changes and become better is what sets us apart from others, it is indeed what makes us worthy people.
